| After the steam engine was provided with water and has
shunted the train could continue its journey in the direction of
Weizelsdorf and its destination Ferlach. |
|

Picture 21: With a sharp whistle the train leaves
Rosenbach and heads for Ferlach. |
|
Picture 22:
After a couple hundred meters we make a turn to the right. |
|

After this corner we enter a tunnel. Immediately after this
tunnel we ride over a long bridge, crossing a deep valley.
Picture 23: From the bridge you can see the valley
down below with forests and a dry riverbed.
The mountainside is very rich of forests.
Update 2007: The tunnel is
called the Lessach tunnel, the bridge is called the
Rosenbach viaduct. |
|
Picture 24:
The train continues to travel through the woods and close to
the mountains. |
|
After
a while we pass a small station (Maria Elend).Picture 25
en picture 26: Two pictures of the station building of
Maria Elend. It looks very nice.
 |
|
Picture 27: We
are approaching a bridge.Update
2007: This bridge is called the Large Suchagraben
bridge.
This railway line crosses are a
lot of brooks and rivers. |
|
Picture 28:
The view from the bridge to
the valley below. The difference in height between the
bridges and the rivers is quite large. The line is at this
moment also still close to the mountains.
This river is very small, but at the end of the winter it
could be very wide. At this moment two people are
sunbathing. With today's temperatures it is not surprising. |
|
The
view from some points of the line is really beautiful.
Picture 29: View from the line to the Rosental.
When I see this I can almost dream away. |
|
Picture 30:
Another picture with the train and the surroundings. |
|
Picture 31:
View from a bridge to the valley below. Some woods, a few
houses and meadows can be seen.Would you also want to
live like this? Update 2007:
This bridge is called the Feistritz viaduct. |
|
Picture 32:
We have arrived at a station.
Update 2007: This station is called Feistritz.
We are waiting for
permission to continue.
As you can see mechanical signals are still be used. This
railway line is still in service, so that makes the use of
mechanical signals special. You would actually expect light
signals. |
|

After a few kilometres we arrived at Weizelsdorf station. We
also have to wait here. Some new passengers board the train
here.
Picture 33: On this picture you can see the
station building of Weizelsdorf. Some parents with children
come and take a look at the train and/or board the train. |
|
Picture 34:
From a window on the other side of the train I can see a
rail bus standing on a side track. I wondered if this type
of train would run on this line normally. |
|
|
After the stop at Weizelsdorf we head for Ferlach.
Update 2007: The train leaves the main line, which
goes to Klagenfurt, and via the branch line, which starts at
Weizelsdorf, the train heads for Ferlach, which is also the end of
this branch line. |
|
We
continue our journey and are getting closer to Ferlach.
Picture 35: The train is about to cross a main road.
Update 2007: The main road
probably goes to the Loibl pass. |
|
Picture 36
(left): When we almost arrived at the station of Ferlach
I saw this building and thought that it was the station
building ...Picture 37 (below): ... but I was
wrong. This building is the station building of Ferlach, the
destination of the train.
 |
|
Picture 38:
The locomotive has just uncoupled and heads back to
Weizelsdorf to refuel for the return-journey. A lot of
people go by nostalgic busses to a museum. Me and the person
I met stay here and will have a lunch. |
|
|
► The people who I was on holiday with said to me that
its crazy to make a journey like this on a day with a
temperature of 40 degrees (Celsius). This journey was
special, because the steam train normally runs only on the
(branch) line Weizelsdorf - Ferlach. It does not use the main
lines (Villach - Rosenbach and Klagenfurt - Rosenbach
(-
Jesenice)). So that's why the journey of this day was very
special. |
