Ziverrail

Photo report

The Dutch silver jubilee train, called "Zilverrail", has been organised because of the silver government jubilee of queen Beatrix, queen of the Netherlands. This train has been specially equipped for youngsters.

For two weeks this train has run on different sections all over the Netherlands.

To travel with this train you had to be between 15 and 20 years old and had to register a week or longer in advance for a certain section.

You can see more details about this event on www.zilverrail.nl (Dutch).

27-10-2005

On Thursday 27 October, the last day, the "Zilverrail" train would run between Delft and Haarlem and between Haarlem and Alkmaar. The queen herself would be on board between Delft and Haarlem. I (the webmaster) checked the website previously what the arrival and departure times would be and got the train to look for this silver express and take pictures of it. Below is my report.

Picture 1: I am standing on platform and had just left my train, the double deck train which leaves here on this picture.

The "Zilverrail" Express (of which the 'Pioneer' car is visible) has arrived earlier than me at Haarlem station.

Queen Beatrix has already left the train.

Picture 2: Now the double deck train almost left my view I can take pictures of the silver express.

Car 1 is clearly visible on this picture with its sponsor: Pioneer. There could be some equipment of this brand on board of this car. I have not seen this train from the inside, but only from the outside.

Picture 3: On this picture you can see the whole train, which is flanked by two locomotives - the second locomotive is not visible on this picture - of the 1700 series.

On this picture you can also see the whole station covering of track 1 to 3 from start to end.

From this picture I pass every car en tell of its contents, because every car has its own theme. Car 1: "Pioneer" and ROC Amsterdam - you can see its logo in the window -.

Picture 4: This is the logo of the silver express. This logo can be seen on every car. This one belongs to car 1. Above in the window is a sticker with the logo of the Dutch Red Cross.

Picture 5: The logo in the corner of car 1 is the one from  the silver jubilee of the queen itself. This logo could also be seen on every car.

If you look to this close-up better you can see that this silver does not belong to the original colour of the car. I can help you: these cars are originally intercity cars. You can still see the original yellow colour behind the handle and the white number. The interior has been specially changed for the theme.

Picture 6: Car 2: "Olympic Experience"

Picture 7: Car 3: "Life Style"

Picture 8: Car 4: "Droom" (dream)

Picture 9: Car 5: "Now Talk"

Picture 10: Car 6: "Track to the Future"

Has probably got something to do with looking for jobs.

Picture 11: Car 7: "Peace of Mind"

You can see that this car has been sponsored by Warchild, because both logos look the same.

Picture 12: Car 8: "Beats per minute"

The youngsters could see and learn to mix music as normal DJ or as radio DJ. Both were guided by professionals.

Picture 13: Car 9: "De Schreew" (the scream)

Picture 14: The locomotive on the other end of the train. The train was pulled and pushed by two locomotives: loc. 1742 en loc. 1750 (on this picture).

Picture 15: On this picture I am standing on the west end of platform 3. The silver express is standing exactly in the middle of the picture.

The train is almost ready to depart.

Picture 16, picture 17 and picture 18: The silver express just departed and is passing by. The train is now heading for Alkmaar.

Picture 19 (left): The silver express has just left the station and is disappearing in the distance.

Picture 20 (below): I zoomed in to take this picture. You can now see the whole train. This is the last picture I took in Haarlem.

It was a beautiful day for this event. The sky is blue.

When the train was no longer visible, I could take the next train back to Leiden.

When I arrived at Leiden central station I was surprised to see the silver express again. I could see at Haarlem that the train was not going in the direction of Alkmaar and now I know where it went to.

Picture 21: The train changed direction at this station, because the 1742 is now showing white lights instead of red lights.

At platform 8b are people waiting for their train - the fast train to The Hague CS - to arrive, but that train cannot enter the station because of the silver express.

The fast train to the Hague cant go via platform 8a, because a regional train will arrive there and that one stops before the junction.

This fast train won't have to wait for long, because the silver express has got permission to go to Alkmaar - its destination -.

Picture 22. picture 23 and picture 24: The train is passing me by again, but now for the final time. Lucky for me that I now have got pictures of this train in Leiden.

Goodbye Silver Rail
