Rail 2005

Photo report

24-09-2005

On Saturday 24 September 2005 I have been to Rail 2005. Rail is a yearly fair for model railroad building and in 2005 it took place at the Groenoordhallen in Leiden (the Netherlands). Here below is a report I have made of my visit.

This is one of the small halls of the Groenoordhallen. In this hall you could see this large display. As you can see is this display manly about the rolling stock. The size of the display is big, but because the size of the trains is also big this reduces the size of the display.

Picture 1 (left): An overview of the whole display.

Picture 2 (below picture 1): This display has just one station/railway yard, which you can see here. All junctions are switched manually.

Picture 3 (left below): A steam train is passing by.

Picture 4 (right below): Here you can see a part of the railway yard. Here you can also see two model Dutch electric locomotives. You might recognise them.

Picture 5: This small display was also in the mentioned small hall.

I just entered the main hall.

Picture 6: On this display you could see scale models of most of the Dutch rolling stock sorts.

Two pictures of a display with a Dutch theme.

Picture 7: Here you can see a part of the display

Picture 8: I tried to get the whole display on the picture. It almost succeeded, but the camera light was rubbish (the camera hasn't got the proper functions).

Here below are five pictures of a long display in the second small hall.

Picture 9 (left top):  This is one of the ends of the display. It has got a big tower at the end (looks like the CN tower).

Picture 10 (below picture 9): Here is an different section of the display. This one has got a small station.

In the right-bottom corner has a car been converted for an onboard camera. This train has collided onto the train ahead of it. On the left-top corner you can just see the TV - with the pictures of the camera on its screen - . From this picture I follow this camera train.

Picture 11 (below picture 10): This is the same section of the display. The picture has been taken in a different direction.

You can still see the train with the camera - the wagons with cars on it - .

Picture 12 (left below): This is yet another section of the display.

You can still see the camera train (on the left of the picture).

Picture 13 (right below): After the previous section the display has a corner and the section next to that has a large station.

The camera train has been derailed and people are trying to get it back on track again.

Picture 14: This display has not finished yet as you can see.

I think it looks good though.

Two pictures of another display with a Dutch theme:

Picture 15 (left): Here is one part of the display.

Picture 16 (below): Here you can see a branch of the display with a railroad yard.

Picture 17: This display has a small scale, but there's a lot to see.

Picture 18 (left) and picture 19 (below):  Two pictures of a display with higt and steep mountains. These mountains are very detaillic.

Picture 20 (left), picture 21 (left below) and picture 22 (below the text): Three pictures of a display made entirely out of LEGO. I didn't know you could build such a nice display. The display has got a lot of (funny) details and scale models.

Picture 23: This is the outside of the building of the Groenoordhallen.

This is also the final picture of this report.
