Model railroad Spittal (Austria)

Photo report

At the beginning of my vacation in Carinthia in Austria in 2005 I got a leaflet about a model railway in Spittal. What I could not expect was that this model railway display was actually the old display from Faak am See, all sounds included. I didn't know if the display was moved with the original owner or sold to a new owner. The present display has got new owners, so the original owner is not there anymore. Parts of the old display however were still there and some parts were even almost exactly in the way they were as in Faak am See. You can see that I have enjoyed this visit very much.

This visit was also the answer to my question what happened to the old display from Faak am See: It went to this place. Now there are two displays which I have to visit each time I visit the region. Both displays are worth wile to see, especially for model railway enthusiasts and Märklin lovers.

The display situated in a shopping mall in the centre of Spittal, close to Schloss Porcia. Because of that there are many people around here.

26-07-2005

On the 26th of July I visited this display. Just like the model railway display at Faak am See not all pictures have succeeded, with or without flash . With my next visit I hope to have a better camera. Here below you can see the pictures I made that day.

When I arrived I was surprised to recognize the old display.

Picture 1: The locomotive depot on this picture is one of those parts which remained almost the same since the last time I saw it.

Picture 2: There is a lot to see on this picture. On the foreground is the central station. Behind that is an oil company. In de background you can see a city and a hill.

(a better enlargement will come later)

Picture 3: This is the same image as the last picture, but this picture has been taken without flash. Picture 2 has been taken with flash. Notice the difference.

Picture 4: This is the same image as picture 1, but this picture has been taken without flash (and it's less sharp because of that).

Picture 5: On this picture shows the start of a second display. This display displays an old situation of the 'Tauernbahn', the line between Spittal - Mallnitz. At one of the walls you can see a movie about this line. On the picture you can see the railway yard of Spittal station.

Picture 6: This picture has been taken a little further on. You can see a train, which is heading for Mallnitz. The track on the left branches off towards Lienz at the point where the train is now.

Picture 7: This picture has been taken from the same display as the last picture, but this picture was taken a little further on.

Picture 8: This picture was taken from the city you could see on picture 2 and picture 3.

Picture 9: On this picture you can see the hill and a little piece of the city. On the left side of the picture you can see the Eiffel tower.

Picture 10: On this picture you can see the central station of picture 2 and picture 3. This picture was taken from the opposite side.

Picture 11: On this picture you can see the city again, but from a different side.

Picture 12: This picture has the hill from a different point of view.

Picture 13: On this picture you can see the big mountain. The old display at Faak am See had also a big mountain, but the old one was more spectacular than the one on this picture. This mountain has been built around a concrete column. On this picture you can also see the entrance/exit and the ticket sale box.

Picture 14: On this picture you can see a different part of the display. This part has a station and a piece of the big mountain.

On this picture you can also see the movie of the 'Tauernbahn', the line from Spittal to Mallnitz.

Picture 15: On this picture you can see a turning loop and a cargo station. Also on this picture you can see the movie about the 'Tauernbahn'.

Picture 16: This picture has been taken from the same part of the display, but from a different angle.

Picture 17: And finally a picture of the city with its fairground. Even the fairground has barely changed, only the place of the attractions.
