Near a town called Faak am See (near the
Faakersee) in Carinthia in Austria is a model railway display. This
display is naer the station of Faak am See so it's easy accessible
by car and train.
In all those years when I have visited Carinthia
in Austria I also visited this model railway display. That's why it
means something special to me. There were two years (2002 and 2003)
when I have not visited this display. The next visit in 2004 I was
surprised: The old display was gone and instead a new display had
been built. When I read the history of this new and beautiful
display it became clear for me what happened: The former owner moved
out and took his display with him. The new owner had to build his
model railway display from scratch. I could not make pictures of the
old display anymore, but took pictures of this new display instead.

Short history |
|
Hans Röttig, the owner of the first
display, started to build the display after he moved from Bad Kleinkircheim. The
new display got the theme and name "Miniwelt Modelleisenbahn" (translated: mini
world model railways). This display had little pieces of the world: some from
Germany, A mountain from Austria an the Dutch harbour of Rotterdam. The display
stood until a few years ago. Then the owner moved out and (probably) took his display with
him. After that the building was empty.
The new owner found the remains
of the old display and started to design and build his new display from
scratch. The theme for this display was (and is) Austria. The new name
for the display became "Modellbahn Paradies" (translated: model railway
Paradise). This display has also got a website:
www.modellbahnparadies.at.

I regret to say that not all pictures I took have succeeded,
because my camera is not sharp when de flash is off. When the flash is on the
display ricochets the reflection of the flash back, especially on the shiny
rails. Eventually I could only select the six pictures for this page, which you
can see here below. |
|
|
Picture 1:
When you enter the room you will see this side first. |
|
Picture 2: This picture was taken a
little further on. Unfortunately the flash reflects on
anything. |
|
Picture 3: The same counts for this picture. The mountains
and the fairground are still recognizable. |
|
Picture 4: I'm still on the same
spot, but turned a little to the left. As you can see there
is a steam engine depot. Behind that is a little piece of
the station of picture 2. You can also see the entrance\exit
and the owner of this display. |
|
Picture 5: Picture 3 continues to this picture. This picture
shows a village with a station, a little piece of a mountain and a
little piece of the main line below. |
|
Picture 6: This is the
turning loop and the end of the display. You can also see a
Thalys and an ICE. |

The problem with my camera with my visit in 2004 was also
the problem with my visit in 2005. Many pictures without flash have
failed and the pictures with flash do not look very good also. That's why
there are just 5 pictures of all the pictures I made at that visit. |
|
|
Picture 1: This picture looks
familiar. It looks like picture 1 of 2004. That's right,
because there is only one or two meters difference between
these two pictures. |
|
Picture 2: This is one of the
pictures without flash that have succeeded. Just like
picture 4 of 2004 is this the steam engine depot. See the
difference between these pictures. |
|
Picture 3: This picture was also taken
without flash. Like picture 3 of 2004 it has the fairground and the
mountains. |
|
Picture 4: There is more
to see on this picture then on picture 5 of 2004. Even this
picture has been taken without flash. |
|
Picture 5: This picture has been taken with flash and
you can see the difference. The train on this picture was a little
faster than I expected, so the front cannot be seen. |
